PETS :: EXTRA COSTS OF OWNING A PUPPY

So puppy is home and you have all your doggy essentials. But now you are at a point where you need to start thinking about the additional costs of owning a dog for life. Here’s my list for out of pocket fees to help keep your pup protected, healthy and happy. Let me know if you agree with my top 5 x

For Pet Insurance I went with Bupa since my health fund is also with them. It’s really important to consider accidents and unexpected hospital and surgery fees which can really hit your account hard if you aren’t covered.

For things like checkups, regular teeth cleaning, blood tests, worming shots etc.. I have a pug and so I have to factor in surgery for her breathing on top of the mentioned vet fees. You may also want to factor in de-sexing.

I opted for the fresh wet dog food meals from Lyka. My pug pup has sensitive skin and a sensitive stomach for food so I want to give her the best meals catered to her needs.

“You don’t train your dog, your dog trains you”.
That’s the best quote I’ve ever heard as it rings so true. Don’t just think you need to train your dog, as you’ll come to realise that you also need to learn how to communicate with your pup. Puppy school is such a worthwhile investment! My recommended Vet also offers a Puppy School course which makes it super convenient to get my pup enrolled.

To toilet train and get your dog off of puppy pads you need an immediate dog loo, so I went with Potty Plant - PottyPlant.com.au. A weekly grass subscription that delivers fresh grass straight to my doorstep, making it easy to maintain my portable and disposable dog loo from home.
